A Perfume is a mixture of fragrant essential oils, aroma compounds, and solvents used to give the human body a lasting and pleasant smell. The amount and type of solvent mix with the fragrance oil dictates whether a perfume is considered a perfume extract, Eau de parfum, Eau de toilette, or Eau de Cologne. Perfumes are classified according to several different factors. Scent is one of the most difficult things to try to put into words, but these classifications may help. The most practical way to start describing a perfume is according to its concentration level, the family it belongs to, and the notes of the scent, which all affect the overall impression of a perfume from first application to the last lingering hint of scent.

The concentration describes weater it is a perfume extract (20%-40% aromatic compound, an eau de parfume(10%-30% aromatic compound), an eau de toilette (5%-20% aromatic compound , or an eau de cologne (2%-5% aromatic compound). The family describes the scent as floral, woodsey, citrius etc. The fragrance notes are described as top notes, middle notes and base notes. Top notes are the scents that are perceived right away, after applying the perfume, middle and base notes are the scents that linger.

Sometimes it can be difficult to choose your perfect scent. And as we know, people associate you with that scent. The best thing to do is to try them out. Not too many in one day though. (Hint: smell coffee grounds between each test to clear your nose.) After you have chosen that signature scent look to the internet and discount perfume sites to purchase.
